The game isn't really that scary, only that it has such an ultra-dark and moody feel to it. It's only those drug-tripped flashbacks that are just weird as %%%%. Other than that, I can tolerate the sheer amount of noir that Max Payne (the game, not the character) pretty much has written all over it.

How about both? First blame him and beat him up, THEN thank him as you make him a US agent who gets sent to Europe to save the president's daughter, then getting your head cut off by a guy with a bag on his head with a chainsaw.

Well, speaking of creepy environments, my cousins get scared whenever I play Max Payne when the Sun isn't out, especially if I'm playing through Max's drug-tripped flashback scenes in between each chapter. As a matter of fact, my cousins are completely scared of the game in general from the noir-esque atmosphere the game has.
