Central Sterile at LifeBridge Health

Have you ever wondered what happens to all the dirty scalpel bases, clamps and other surgical tools used in the operating room? Nondisposable medical equipment must be cleaned and sterilized before it can be reused. At Sinai and Northwest hospitals, that responsibility falls upon the Central Sterile departments.

Education and certification criteria are put in place to meet our standards of job knowledge, performance ability and professionalism required for positions.Central Sterilization is responsible for the sterilization of instruments used for surgery and procedures throughout the hospital. Not all hospitals require this certification, but at Sinai it is viewed as a critical area that requires employees who are skilled, knowledgeable and dedicated.

Its interesting to see how other units work. We have 3 of the synergy washers in our unit but we don't store the equipment or do the O.R setups.
