Once again, YouTube confirm my lack of faith in people.

I am excited to see this film. I have really enjoyed Merritt's work in the years since I've discovered it. Probably the film shows some good sides of Merritt and some bad ones, because, since he's a human being, he's bound to have both. And that's as should be. He's a musician. He doesn't have to make me fall in love with him. He has to make me fall in love with the music. And he has.

Looks like a fan-movie. It's the magnetic fields. If you listen to their music you'll see what I mean when I say I seriously doubt "the 99%" (whatever that is suppose to mean in this context) has ANY idea what to do with 69 love songs. Merritt is famously miserable, which is likely why we "hipsters" enjoy his music so much: It's theatrical, its absurd, it's romantic, it's silly, it's dark, it's magic, but apparently it's not for you. I'm just sorry the doc failed articulate his genius.

Saw this on Saturday. I went with my wife and friends who are big MF fans, but I hardly know their music so I went into the flick with no opinion MF. This movie seems to be made by a fan (the director had a Q&A after) for fans. I didn't learn all that much about them or understand why Stephen is a "genius", etc. He seems pretty aloof and kind of miserable. The movie, as admitted by the director, has no real story. It's just a factual little docu about Stephen and Claudia mostly. 2/4 stars.
