Award-winning film directors William Friedkin and Woody Allen join forces to create a new cinematic production of Puccini's trio of one-act operas at LA Opera.

Bringing fresh insight to Puccini's trilogy of one-act operas will be two Academy Award-winning filmmakers. William Friedkin will direct Il Tabarro and Suor Angelica and Woody Allen will make his opera debut directing Gianni Schicchi. Tony Award-winning production designer Santo Loquasto (who has worked on more than 20 Woody Allen films) will design all three operas. On the podium will be Music Director James Conlon.

  • Wow. Delevan is really impressive here.

  • He is my favourite mozartian baritone. look at another film with Allen as Schicchi (Tatulescu is Lauretta again, Sthephen Costello is Rinuccio)

  • That is the wonderful Thomas Allen.

  • Who is Gianni Schicchi? I guest that he is Thomas Allen

  • Too bad the singing is so poor in quality.

  • Will this be released on DVD any time?

  • orrore!!!!! ignominiousGianni Schicchi

  • This production was fantastic!! Puccini's music was, of course, beyond amazing, and the staging was lovely (no surrealist garbage this time :) Woody Allen over-sexed Gianni Schicci, but that was to be expected. Best of all was Suor Angelica - Sondra Radvanovsky was fabulous in the title role and the end scene was indescribable. Haha at the climax when her son walks out, a college student behind me burst out "Oh (BLEEP)!!!" I came back the next night just to experience that one act again. :D

  • It was a very nice performance, where withing a few hours I felt, anger, fear, cried( a lot), and laughted at the end. Saimir Pirgu was great in the last act.

  • This was easily one of the best operas I've ever seen and will ever see. The cast was outstanding and each new act outdid the one before. Perfection!
