Video of an intense early
morning flash flood on the
north side of Fort Smith
arkansas, shutting down the
town.After a previous night
of tornados and tennis ball
hail storms. The weather was
so bad that all schools were
closed on the 10th of april
2008. Thats never happened
before. Not after the deadly
april 1996 tornado that wiped
out the north side of town.
Not ever. This video was shot
from a car while trying to
out run a flash flood.

  • We found two softball sized hail stones that hit at an angle and penetrated the side of the house.

  • It flooded all over town, not as bad as the north side, but I was out in it all night at my post as a guard. I had to drive to work as a Tornado Warning was going out, them thinking one was headed for Ft. Smith (again). I had taken refuge in my closet, that hail was the worst I've ever heard before and I pray I never hear it again! I really thought it was a tornado and the roof was coming off my apartment. My car got dented bad but the windshields were intact Had to be divine. Had to be.

  • @leandar It was a bad one alright. There are still a bunch of broken windows on Garrison Ave. Thanks for watching.

  • I remember that storm... I didnt loose a single window... but the hail destroyed the roof and was so large it broke one of the rafters

  • @brainscar Thank you for posting! Don't see too much about Fort Smith on YouTube, so it's nice to see some. :)

  • @leandar Also, while I was at work that night, I was listening to KISR all night and the guy (I think, the owner) who usually does the weather said it had flooded out on Rogers Avenue near Creekmore Park and that never happens! Oh btw, I do remember the schools closing in 1996, I have the old video that KFSM put out of the tornado coverage and they mentioned something about the schools being out the day after the tornado.

  • i was there when that happened
