Yes, those are a bunch of dots. Yes, that is OK Go.
OK Go is awesome. Plus they wear fantabulous outfits. And since my favorite art medium is ink, after seen one of their pics, I was sold on what my next project was going to be. A friend suggested, I take progressive photographs of my work and that's when the idea synchronizing it to OK Gos music was born.
The art work: it was done with a $2 dollar pen (waterproof, came in a package of two for like $4 with tax). I like to break in my pens so that they are malleable to my touch and I rarely use more than one pen (if I do, they are the same type; just one has been broken in ahead of time). Though I am not opposed to using specialty pens, with my current budget a single cheap pen works great. Apart from ink, drawing paper, eraser and the ever so handy pencil were involved.
I chose pointillism because of two things: the paisley shirts were a formidable challenge and lent themselves to it and I am not great at portraits, but they come easier with pointillism.
In choosing the song: I heard that OK Go come up with concepts and then choose the song. This is one of those. Because I don't like challenges...hehe...I chose their 6 min song. This song is great and it really sums up the nostalgia and sentiments of the album. In The Glass is mistakenly upbeat at some points, luring you to a rain drenched open end.
As for the footage: Because the song is long, but the beats are frequent, I had to be a tad bit imaginative with the data. So, I took pics around DC, where I live. DC is magnificent with diversity and after seeing some Saris walking around; I figure it would be fun to have people in the video. I didn't approach the women wearing Saris (they had children and I didn't want to be a complete creep-o); however, some Kazakhstani girls agreed and next thing I know a lot of different people are taking pics. Some even asking to be in it (I think the mirth of the Japanese-American Festival going on really helped—and maybe being a petite cute girl helped too). It was a ton of fun.
The video: This is my first video (I have worked on videos in groups during college video about raccoons on Pepperdine campus, don't ask ;), but not since). I don't own any editing gear, so this was edited thanks to Microsoft Office Picture Manager and Movie Maker (sucky I know but existent nonetheless). There are a couple of nuances that did not translate into the final product, but I hope the result is a feast for the eyes and a flow with the music. (Sorry the sound is sucky!)
Whats Next: I love this project and it might be a repeat with my other art work using the music of artist I love. I am currently doing an acrylic. I am hesitant about the video since editing took longer than the art! However, each video is also a standing art piece of its own. ;)
Love, Peace and Bacon!

P.S.: To OK Go if they are reading this: how about you guys autograph the piece at your May 5th concert?! Now...if you are really impressed how about a ride to Boston? Jk. but seriously (my friends knew I liked your music so much, I ended up with tickets here in DC and in Boston where a great friend lives). Love and Bacon ;)
