Denial of service attacks have become rather common, and there are several types of attacks. One of these attacks are called a SYN flood attack, which effectively fills up the half-open connection queue on the victim. SYN cookies are one method of preventing this kind of attack.

Presented by Dr. John Black, a professor in the Department of Computer Science.
