No, not so about the male perspective- here I am, a woman, and this song always makes me tear up because I feel it so deeply. Anyway, that's the thing about lyrics and most art- everyone interprets it a bit personally their own way.

But if you want to hear a really great cover of this song- listen to Madeline Peyroux. Awesome.

Gosh i like the idea of an all-female tribute to Tom Waits but def the original has his gritty element to it, plus I think it is just ingrained that this is a male perspective. Nice though very jazzy
