recorded at Mozarteum in Salzburg on 2010-03-19 - unbelievable Yuja plays her own version of this very hard-to-play Brahms - she opens the 2nd part with the 1st variation (without theme), omits 3rd, 4th and 9th variation; after the 10th variation she jumps back to the 3rd and 4th and then goes directly back to part I, where she ends with the last two variations
Does she not display here her genius for what?...facile superficiality? I was trying to think if she shaved off more of the Brahms, or more of the Paganini out of these, but she is certainly doing quite a bit of shaving here...and Johannes is ferociously hard, yes, he makes Yuja hit some clinkers, too...

@geertdehoux Anyone who has declared someone else to be an idiot, a bad apple, is annoyed when it turns out in the end that he isn't. ;-))))

@masterofsynapsis A major secret of aesthetics, that's what its all about isnt't it,is the mobilization of the moving dialogue and the delicate balance it sets up between premonitions confirmed and premonitions overturned.Listening is a matter of acrive respons,of dialogue with the material. We re-create music as we hear it.We start at the edge and work our way round and around into the center. We all decode music in our own way using criteria unique to each and all of us.Groet.Walter Schuermans

@masterofsynapsis You make a very astute observation.Allow me to add a few words to your comment. One of the many catch-22's in being creative is that one cannot express inspiration without skill.,but if one is too wrapped up in the professionalism of skill you obviate the surrender to accident that is essential to inspiration. One begins to emphasize product at the expense of process. It is possible to have stupendous technical prowess, dazzling virtuosity,-yet there is -something lacking.
