  • brian, my 04 jetta has a rough idle, not throwing a code. I notice it more on warm days. A lot of what im reading is leading towards it being the MAF. Are there any ways to check it without scanners and volt meters? thanks

  • @olmattieboy None I would recommend without being sarcastic.

  • damn that's really dirty, did you change the air filter?

  • @Iam18yearsolddddd But of course!

  • i ruined mine and now i need a new one :(

  • Airflow.. Meant maf sensor

  • Thanx 4 posting.read some comments tryin to figure difference between dirty yet good mas and just a bad mas.ill try tmrow thanx

  • @olmattieboy pull the maf sensor plug and if you feel more power then you have a bad maf sensor. I would also check out the vacuum lines getting dry rotted.

    good luck

    Phil

  • Also, if you suspect the MAF sensor to be bad, unplug the connector from the sensor and go for a drive. If there are any changes(positive) than the sensor is bad. If it stays the same, its probably not faulty. Clean it anyway.

When the MAF goes bad, the computer uses pre-defined values for air temp/density/volume sort of like a safe mode. You lose performance but it can still be driven okay.

  • @briansmobile1 it was a bad MAF
