@lyth0s33 the motherboard that im thinking to buy says this in the description
"8 x SATA connectors: 4 x SATA 6Gb/s connectors (Red) & 4 x SATA 3Gb/s connectors (Gray)" and the hard drive im looking for is "
SATA3 (6Gb/s)" so are they compatible with each other?

@MultiKnull One other thing to look into is RAID. Mostly, RAID is for backups, but RAID 0, or stripign, one type of RAID, is good for expanding HD space. You can RAID 0 2 drives together, to effectively combine them. So if I took 2 hard disk drives, 1 TB each, and setup RAID 0, I would effectively have one 2TB HDD. Your motherboard may have an onboard RAID controller, or your can purchase one to plug in to a PCI card slot.
Wow, I just wrote a ton. Hope that helps you choose a hard drive! [4/4]

@MultiKnull (continued again) Most OS's like Windows use a lot of file operations internally, so OS speeds should get a boost too. For gaming, a fast HD's importance depends on the game. If you're familiar with Minecraft, it loads and saves "chunks" very often to the drive, so a fast drive has an impact of performance. A game with lots of assets, like Skyrim, will have less loading time with a faster HD. So those are the basics (and a ton of details) of choosing a HD. Continued again -_- [3/4]

@MultiKnull (continued) I just recently purchased a hybrid 500 GB drive for $150 for my laptop. It is very fast, and I get a decent amount of storage space. Generally, a hybrid drive should be plenty, and an SSD is not necessary. One other important bit of information is that a fast hard drive won't necessarily speed up your computer. Same with a bigger one. It will speed up any file operations, like saving a document, loading an image, or copying files to the disk. [2/3]

@pchelper102 all you need to check is if your harddrive is IDE or SATA. If you have a SATA HD then you want a SATA compatible motherboard(most are), if you have an IDE HD, you need to make sure your motherboard has an IDE connector.
@freshkid429 (Newegg . com) is really the best way to go
@sweetfeat1 when you get it check out
(elitepcbuilding . com) It will give you step by step instructions on assembling the computer and is just an all around amazing site.
