Here's some behind the scenes footage of Rich Mullins rehearsing with the band he was touring with at the time, Avenue G, and Beaker before a concert in Columbus, Ohio. Be sure to check out part 2 to hear Rich demo-ing two songs that were new at the time and later appeared on his "World As Best as I Remember it Vol. 1" album. This clip begins with an Avenue G song possibly titled "She lives in Babylon". Beaker has his back to the video most of the time and tunes the lap dulcimer. Avenue G was founded by Lee and Nicki Lundgren, I'm not sure of the names of the other band members.

  • I gotta say that the Skyline Chili Sweatshirts are impressive. Two of the guys are wearing them so you know they just came up from Cincinnati.

  • I've always assumed that Rich met these guys (from the band Avenue G) while going to Cincy Bible College where Rich went to school for a time.

  • No, Ave. G was from Wichita Kansas.

  • Thanks for the correction. That makes more sense given the time frame, when Rich was in Cincy versus when he was in Wichita.

  • This (song they are doing at the start) reminds me of the little song that Rich did as a "round" in concert - he did it at the Lufkin, TX concert in '97 not long before he Went Home... i wish i could help better but it is from that same Scripture - "how can we sing when we are captives in Babylon". Look for that - it's just Rich and Mitch, i think? Dang i should know this!! :-) Look for that Lufkin vid . It definitely ties in with this song.

Thank you for posting!!! V. cool!

  • Actually, the song from the Lufkin show was called "by the waters of Babylon", I think, and is an old Don MacLean song. I think in this video, the "babylon" song is an Avenue G song, they opened for Rich on this tour. The Lufkin show is a definitely a treasure.

  • @harriswhistles Thank you for the help!! (If i didn't before. I never knew how to get back to the vids before :-)) It's great seeing all of this stuff still!

  • Watching all these videos for the past few days. I still can't believe he's gone. This breaks my spirit. I can't wait to see Him again.

  • After 13 years...it is still so bitter sweet to watch & listen to Rich.He lived on my floor at Cincinnati Bible College. After He left Cincinnati I didn't see him much. We saw him at a church on the east side of Cincinnati after a concert. we talked in the parking lot till he finally got tired& left. A friend of mine worked with Rich more than I kept trying to get us all 3 together to write..but the miles between us &Rich's schedule kept it from happening...Maybe in Heaven brother we miss you!

  • Thank you! I can't believe I'm just now seeing this comment :) YouTube challenged! ;-)
