I simply had to do another Cohen song and this has always been one of my all time favorites. A true mastery of poetry, like all of Cohen's work. This is also one of the few numbers of his that I LOVE hearing his voice to - his songs make for some brilliant covers. This one gives me the chance to delve into my lower register too, which I enjoy. His vocal sound is definitely an acquired taste. There are several videos on YouTube of this song live by Cohen, any one of which I highly recommend. Also, if you haven't heard him and Jennifer Warnes perform "Joan of Arc" your life is not as rich as it could be. This video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntrX4mgs12Q has the whole studio recorded version of those two singing it and it leaves me speechless every time. Yes, it's nearly 10 minutes long, but worth every minute! In fact, Jennifer Warnes' Famous Blue Raincoat album is a MUST for every LC fan.

So, I said in the vid that I'd been learning guitar since December, but really, I only had about a half dozen lessons back before the new year and have hardly picked the damn thing up since. Shameful, I know. Fortunately, there are only three chords to this song and simple ones at that. I love the sound I get out of this guitar and it seems to translate nicely through the mic too so if I get braver with my strumming and plucking I'll do more with the guitar.

Thanks again to everyone for stopping by!

Lyrics:
verse 1
Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic 'til I'm gathered safely in
Lift me like an olive branch and be my homeward dove
Dance me to the end of love

verse2
Oh let me see your beauty when the witnesses are gone
Let me feel you moving like they do in Babylon
Show me slowly what I only know the limits of
Dance me to the end of love

verse 3
Dance me to the wedding now, dance me on and on
Dance me very tenderly and dance me very long
We're both of us beneath our love, we're both of us above
Dance me to the end of love

verse 4
Dance me to the children who are asking to be born
Dance me through the curtains that our kisses have outworn
Raise a tent of shelter now, though every thread is torn
Dance me to the end of love

Repeat verse 1

  • Wow, that was beautiful. I'm learning guitar myself, so I know how it feels! You played very nicely and I loved the natural vibrato and calm sound of your voice. It took me places. It was really nice to see another of your videos since that lovely cover of My Immortal. Great job! I'd love to see more. :)
