This is an example of filtered permeability in Swindon, UK. Cars are only allowed to use the street one-way, but bikes can go in either direction thanks to the bike lane up one side. It is a great location as it provides a route through to Old Town avoiding the very busy ring road (Bath Road). It also goes past a primary school and encourages children to cycle to school in safety.
At least it did until Swindon Borough Council put parking space for 5 cars right across it, and now it is incredibly dangerous.

  • Magnatom - yes, we've talked at length with the Council who ignore us. We've told them (and showed them) how dangerous it is and how, if a cyclist rides head on in to an oncoming car they will be sued. But nothing doing.

  • @Signaltonoise

you should do, and make a video of it too.

  • what in the world...

  • Pig ignorant motorist's parking on cycle lanes again! This is where a traffic warden would be useful.

  • LOL! Have you contacted the council about this one?

  • Excellent example of Swindon Borough Council at its best. Are we suppossed to cycle over the top of the cars?
