Using costume/theatre latex you can make your own mask without a complicated molding system. Aside from the latex all products can be bought at a large craft store. Uses clay as a mold form which can be recycled by soaking it in a little water until it's as soft as you like. I used less than 4oz of latex to make this mask, so depending on how thick your latex is expect to have left over supplies from this project for making further latex appliances or masks. I mention texture materials being added to latex, for this mask I mixed sand into the latex, but you could add anything -- like fake plastic ants.

  • that masks you made is horrible but nice reference on the latex part

  • @MPHkevin that grammars you'd using are bad too. lulz thnx

  • Hey I really need a reply for this, I'm making a full face mask but i'm worried the latex will not come of my mold properly, is there some kind of soap I can coat the mold in that will help the latex remove itself? And will it destroy the latex because it's soap?

  • @MrFrancis94 What kind of mold you using? Latex is fragile by its nature. So anything, even water will degrade it-but the big short term killers are oil and heat. While sunlight and humidity eat it over the long term.

I use the water based clay because water melts the surface of the clay so I can pull anything off it with the addition of tap water.

  • Where did you get the clay from?

  • @andruppets Any large craft store or art store. In the US and Canada, Micheal's, JoAnne, and AC Moor will all carry water based air-dry clay, also known as "moist pottery clay." You can recycle it by adding water and soaking it over night.

  • @Elijah503sm Your account appeared to have been deleted by the time I got your comment. This highlights an enormous problem I see in education. Because we require children, like this poster above, to follow formulaic rubrics and we punish them unless they do it right, the only room for creativity is in destruction. In a US middle school a child cannot be creative in class, they can, however be creative in taunts and harassment. We have a US culture of destruction being the only real outlet.

  • @gryphen lol no trust me im a great artist it just really bothers me how people dont understand if your going to do something do it right. to be honest it looks like total shit and does not look real at all. yeah and since middle schoolers cannot be creative in class. Which was probably what happened to u ur artistic ability never enhanced and stood at the capacity level of a kindergardener learning to finger paint.
