"Blew in from the Windy City" My first venture into what I think I might classify as Jazz. Recently We went to Chicago for the first time, to meet our family there (who we had not seen in over a year) to celebrate Papa's Birthday. I'm quite sure that the reason Chitown felt so much like home was our family being there, yet the vibe of the old girl was pretty cool too, for such a large city. Among my favorite parts of the trip (excluding our family) was our trip to the Museum. It was the first time I had seen Van Gough, Monet, Picasso, etc.... in person. Very moving. Also we were able to see a show at Buddy Guy's Legends. We saw Muddy Waters eldest son Mud Morganfield (Referred to as Mud JR in the song) Another part of the songs content comes from what a dear friend is going through right now. My wife was speaking to her on the phone while I was working on the song and a bunch of lyrics just flowed out. I combined the two subject matters.

On vocal I had the help of Lou Stongarm (No relation to Louis Armstrong) I did my normal Bass stylings, and used the bass for the Lead and Rhythm Guitar parts. I also employeed the use of loops from the free 8packs courtesy of ACIDplanet. The photography & photographic manipulation was done by RanDell .

Blew in from the Windy City
Music and Lyrics by: R.J. Miller

A heart breaks without a sound
The season for belief is now
For our souls together stand
The gift is stored inside the plan

Man size boy just wants to play
The wife and kids get in the way
Your hobbies are left to thrive
In the wake of shattered lives

Heard the blues at Buddy's joint
Mud JR he had a point
So much to be thankful for
Yet we grasp for more and more

Blew in from the Windy City
One day we will need no pity
There's a reason for our pain
We may or may not ascertain

Blew in from the Windy City
This old town seems ity-bity
Bits of life I will hold onto
I see old things all anew

Steel and glass reach to the sky
Impressionist have touch my eye
Things unseen beneath the floor
Your know I've heard it all before

Homeless holding out their hand
The Sax man plays a one night stand
Strolling down the avenue
Well this old man was over due

A city's life goes on and on
Where will we go when it's all gone
This mile is magnificent
Hey I've got plastic I'm content

Blew in from the Windy City
That ol' gal is mighty pretty
Now she is a lifelong friend
Does she want me back again

Blew in from the Windy City
Where's the welcoming committee
There's but one thing left to do
I just got to get back to you

There are three things that remain
Related yet not all the same
Faith and hope are not above
The best of these we call it love

Store forgiveness in your heart
Experience a brand new start
Call to God in your despair
You won't catch him unaware

Water past horizons line
Tell me life's not by design
I hear static on the phone
Is it the ghost of Al Capone

Blew in from the Windy City
Life in you can seem so gritty
If we fail to learn the past
We lose all that we've amassed

Blew in from the Windy City
Do I come across as witty
Searching for our space in time
Reaching out for the sublime

Blew in from the Windy City
As I sing this little ditty
Oh so many stories to tell
As I bid you all farewell

  • ouch. Lou is singing in a completely different key than the combo through the entire song. I think my ears are bleeding now.

  • You've got to be one of the most prolific lyricists I've ever encountered...how do you do it?
