A Dade County inmate who escaped during a visit to the Hutcheson Medical Center Emergency Room late Sunday night remains on the run.

On Monday deputies used K-9's to search the area. Law enforcement officers from more than four counties are involved in the search.

Joshua Lee Bradford, 28, escaped around 10 pm Sunday from Hutcheson Medical Center in Fort Oglethorpe. He was arrested in Dade County Sunday night facing several charges including criminal trespassing, discharging a firearm, damage to property, and terroristic threats. Bradford was only in jail there for a few hours before deputies brought him to Hutcheson Medical Center. They say Bradford was complaining of a possible overdose involving drugs. But, it wasn't long before he made his escape.

"He had to go to the bathroom we understand, and he broke away from the jailer, pushed the jailer aside, and went out the door," says Dade County chief detective Don Hicks.

The jailer chased Bradford from the hospital, but lost him after Bradford ran through the woods right across from the hospital. Hicks believes getting to the hospital could have all been part of his plan to get away.

"He could've made this up to get to a hospital to have the opportunity to escape. But when he escaped, he didn't have anywhere to go," says Hicks.

Residents we found near the hospital in Fort Oglethorpe questions how easy it was for the inmate to escape.

"What happened? How did he get away? That's what I want to know. How did the man get away from the cop?" questions Lisa Jent.

So far searchers have only found Bradford's orange jail slippers.

Deputies say Bradford is likely wearing a green shirt and blue jeans which is what he had on when he escaped from the hospital.

Some who live near Hutcheson worried about their safety.

"There are kids around here, they're in school, anything can go wrong, daycares, schools, all kind of crazy things run through your head because you don't know what kind of man he is," said Jent.

"We hadn't been keeping the door locked, but I told my husband who's here a lot of times by himself that he needs to keep the doors locked," says Rosa Burts.

Bradford is now facing two new charges including escape and assaulting an officer.
