There Is A Happy Land is a song written and performed by David Bowie. It is from the album David Bowie in 1967.

Lyrics:

There is a happy land where only children live
They don't have the time to learn the ways
Of you sir, Mr. Grownup

There's a special place in the rhubarb fields underneath the leaves
It's a secret place and adults aren't allowed there, Mr. Grownup
Go away, sir

Charlie Brown got half a crown, he's gonna buy a kite
Jimmy's ill with chicken pox, and Tommy's learned to ride his bike
Tiny Tim sings prayers and hymns, he's so small we don't notice him
He gets in the way but we always let him play with us

Mother calls, but we don't hear
There's lots more things to do
It's only 5 o'clock, and we're not tired yet
But we will be, very shortly

Sissy Steven plays with girls, someone made him cry
Tony climbed a tree and fell, trying hard to touch the sky
Tommy lit a fire one day, nearly burned the field away
Tommy's mum found out, but he put the blame on me and Ray

There is a happy land where only children live
You've had your chance and now the doors are closed sir, Mr. Grownup
Go away, sir

Boo, de boo, de boo, de boo dup (repeat)

  • David, Back to Basic!!

    Great song

  • he is fantastic, is an art, a planet.

  • i've always liked alot of bowie's popular music but decided i'm gonna listen to all his music starting with his first album. my guess is i won't be disappointed.

  • I want to live in this land.

  • Hearing songs like this, When I'm Five, and songs like that, it makes me think that David understands kids perfectly.

  • When I went to Birmingham from Holland by plane to see Roxy Music live in the LG Arena, I went to a real big music store (forgot the name), and bought David Bowie Deluxe Edition for 12 pounds. Awesome album, and the concert was awesome too :D

  • SEVENTEEN STAR GENERAL !...

  • Sissy Steven? LOL, a transgender theme? :D

  • Been a Bowie fan for nearly 40 years, love this then and always..............

  • I think no one could have played in The man who fell to earth better, he had that slight odd, confusing quality to him that you can't teach people
