I think the lyrics will show that even "way back when", John was headed towards a Christian rock career.... Told my buddy that after seeing them live back in '76 at Sfld Fairgrounds... Listen to "Elijah" as well to support my position.... Dude's got a really good clarity and projection in his presentation....
