  • @Scott06096 too many beers for sure...trust me,I got one coming right behind him

  • Dude check out that gut!

  • doc could have been legendary as babe ruth if it weren't for drug use during his career.

  • @B2B76 Dykstra for Samuel was terrible. McReynolds was a disappontment. Hojo got away, Jefferies turned out to be a bust, Elster couldn't hit. A lot of reasons the Mets didn't win more. But damn, that Mike Scoscia(sp?) HR really really hurt. If the Mets win THAT game I don't believe the Dodgers beat them in 88. Then, we would've seen the Mets vs the A's. That would've been a huge matchup on paper. Would it have been a great series? We'll never know................

  • Doc had the best artistic pitching form ever. it was just so sweet to witness.

  • @chicksdigmizunos98

Thanks - you are not the first to present that theory.

  • @jimlaregina Not many guys can consistently approach 300 innings and be dominant for years. The coke didn't do him in as much as the wear and tear on his shoulder from pitching too many innings did so.

Doc is often the cautionary reason why teams put guys on pitch counts today. And it's certainly not going to stop, with as careful as the Nats were with Strasburg and he STILL blew out his arm.

  • Doctor K!!!!! God bless you!!!

  • besides that killer curveball, and that rising fastball, what other pitches did he throw

  • @chicksdigmizunos98

That could be part of it, too. I remember the Mets giving Doc Gooden his second '86 World Series start on short rest even though Boston had him in his first start.

Like many Rookies of the Year, living up to unreasonably high expectations are the price an athlete pays when hitting it so big so young, as Doc Gooden did. Take away the first three seasons Gooden had and he was still better than most pitchers.
