Beyond the Sea is originally a French song called "La Mer", composed and recorded by Charles Trenet. It was later translated into English. Since then, Beyond the Sea has been a favorite song by many people. I hope you'll enjoy!

To answer your question, I kinda do it by ear mostly, but I write down notes to myself so I don't forget...

Basically, the song is built from a regular I-vi-ii-V7 chord progression. This song is built in three keys (so, three chord progressions):

1.F6-Dm7-Gm7-C7

2.A6-F#m7-Bm7-E7

3.C6-Am7-Dm7-G7

This is really all there is to it. The rest you must fill it in by ear. Do you have an audio of the original song? There are plenty here on YouTube, you can listen and work!
