oh god the music is terrible...

This video must not have been filmed in the u.s. You are not allowed to ride the load here. Stainless towers are a pain in the ass, hog rods tie in below the flange. Better them than me!

@MrMotoden In Western Australia, some of the lowest paid unskilled workers get 150 000 salaries in the mining and oil gas projects. True story.

similar to a time lapse of ants creating an anthill - minus the steel, tower crane and harnesses,

I am digging the channel...! =]

@fightnightchamp09This comes late but I did this for several yrs and the pay is great(wages plus often generous perdiem). While it is an exciting job the work is absolutely grueling and you will travel constantly. Not good for a family man but if you're young and single the chicks will worship you.Death is a very real possibility also. You can't really understand just how high some of these things are until you're up there. Many people can't take it even when they were sure they could.

Way Cool!

only "HOT" towers or AM radio, sit on insulators, this is not one. the base is narrow because it sits on a King pin. this provides a pivot point for the tower allowing it to give without bending the base of thelefs as it would if each leg was mounted to the base.

Those guys definitely have something to be proud of when they are finished. I give them tons of credit for being tough and determined.

@xtcfm So much misinformation on this topic... The base is called a "tapered base" and it's used so they can utilize a pier pin for the foundation. This is a large pin that acts to control the sheer forces of the tower while allowing it to twist slightly at the base. Almost all large towers use a pier pin design as it puts less stress on the tower in high winds and ice conditions.
This tower is quite obviously not a hot tower requiring an insulator as they are rigging an antenna at the top.
Not a dumb question. A lot of people asked it. The answer is at wirelesssestimator.comon the left hand side there is a link.
