I am growing a miniature pumpkin variety from seed for the first time. It's Jack Be Little Seed that I got from a sponsor of mine Botanical Interests.

To help the plant grow upwards, you want to take the tendrils, those are the small viney (if that's even a word) type things, and guide them up the cage. The tendrils help to support the plant while it's growing and will wrap around anything that will support them.

Have you ever thought of growing pumpkins in containers? What have you learned learned about growing pumpkins?

  • Hey Mike,

We are growing a pumpkin from seed which has grown completely out of control. It's up the fence and hopping over into other garden beds. Lots of tendrils. However, I don't think this variety of pumpkin is container friendly. Especially considering the fruit it is producing (about the size of my hand, fingers spread wide open).

Next year, the pumpkin is getting it's own area of the yard to grow however it wants.

  • @dtpennington LOL. Doesn't sound very small space friendly.

  • I have learned that it takes longer for the female flower to show up then the male flower.

  • @Allen2045 Isn't that the way it always works. C'mon I had to...

  • I will have to try the small pumpkins next year in a container. When you harvest them are you going to bake the whole pumpkin? I have the big ones growing in my yard and one that is growing on the fence between our yard and the neighboors.

  • @Allen2045 I'll have to see what happens with them...

  • @MZMStudios It's my first time growing them. Pretty dope. Think I'm gonna have lots of blooms soon.
