Commander will die of 1-3 BB (big bertha) shells depending on they accuracy, krogoths require more, but the krogoth's AOE (area of effect) death damage amount is not as high as 2 BB hits. D-Gun damage however is unlimited if it hits directly.

Veteranship (5+ unit kills onwards) gradually increases a unit's damage and hitpoints. Veteran units are more likely to survive. A commander can D-Gun (D + click on ground) on the path of a walking krogoth from maximum range, so that the krogoth will explode but the commander will survive with a red "health bar". If there are more than 1 krogoths, the area damage is combined and the commander cannot survive.

Seriously? I had like three krogoths one time and then my nearby commander was shelled by berthas. The commander was blown yo bits and the Krogoths survived with red hp. TELL ME MAN, HOW?

The commander really is the best unit you can have. Except a Krogoth. ;D
