Loved this, Tripp. Thanks.

I definitely some what agree with you. On a purely spiritual note, I do definitely think when you're not peaceful and you're not acting as god would have you, you play right in to the devil's hands and they just causes all around badness. Unfortunately it's sometimes just hard to be human.

I think you might be onto something there. Yeah "live into it!" Like learn how to live with others, with your immediate future you have, Obama at the wheel.

It's incredibly complicated, of course. I don't feel that international opinion is always judging clearly. Not at all. Toothless? Hardly. And then we acted...Who knows if that was the right response or not. But there's something in this Nobel Prize award that has me thinking. Maybe something else is afoot. I just don't know. I'll post the sermon on my blog. We'll see what happens Sunday. Thanks, Jimmer.

Unfortunate that the world works that way.
Now we are involved in a no win situation just the same as Vietnam. An insurgency that has more time and lives to spend than we are willing to invest. Not that we didn't have just cause for taking action in Afghanistan, we did.
But it could have been done so much better. And now we are engaged in Nation Building. All these same words were bandied about in the 'nam. Hearts and minds, winning the soul... Ach!
Those who fail to learn...

I suspect that you are right. But I question that the sentiment is a pervasive as you say. There is a very vocal minority that feels that and they are using this award to express those views.
Iraq was wrong. Afghanistan is mishandled.
Do you remember before the 1st gulf war when the US was considered toothless and indolent? We were poked because our adversaries were sure we wouldn't respond. That we didn't have courage or conviction.
I did not think of this possible angle. Wow.
You're on to something here. Seriously.

We'll see. Bono has an OpEd column in the NYTimes that appears to be related. It was printed today. And if you go to my blog, you can read my sermon. Let me know what you think. I'll throw the link up in the sidebar.

Interesting angle Tripp, go with it.
I would suggest two modifications;
1. The perspective of the Nobel judging is intended to be on the actions of the prior year, not the current or future. When one looks back a year, from an international, not a USA perspective, he earned it. We buried in the US propaganda machine don't see the difference his presence made around the world.
2. This fact leads you to a softer sell of; that if they ARE playing future-cast politics, "bull in the china shop" etc.

Thanks, Don! I appreciate the feedback. In the sermon that is unfolding, I've dropped some of that language and started focusing on what it means to be the "last and only super power."
