This is an example of how to use PECs with an autistic child in order to elicit speech and answer "Wh" questions. This example is from a home ABA program. Check out www.newautismawareness.com for more video clips.

  • maybe you could tell her "you're not listening. you need to listen" when she is distracted, then reinforce when she does what you've asked. Also, in my school, we try and give a verbal instruction, followed by a non-verbal, (pointing), then a model prompt (eg you would read it) and finally, if still no response, we use Hand over Hand. (so you could block everything else out and hold the card to her face with a simple instruction such as "read". Apparently it phases out responding on the 2nd/3rd

  • Thank you for posting this video. Beautiful child and it appears making some good progress.
