Every January to celebrate Hen Galan - old new year - Chepstow hosts a meeting between English and Welsh traditions at the mid point of the bridge over the river Wye. The English bring Morris dancers (Rag Morris from Bristol) and wassailers, the Welsh 3 Mari Lwyds plus Welsh morris teams, piped onto the bridge by a Welsh piper and drums.
All organised by Widders Border Morris. Also present - the BUMs border morris and Heb Enw Morris from Pembrokeshire. The three Maris are one from the Widders, one with Heb Enw and the third is the Llantrisant Mari.

  • Great video. I could instantly recognize the Chepstow and Llantrisant maris but did not know about the Widders' until now. Thanks for posting.
