  • @logbasher (Typo) Electric

  • @logbasher As for class fans and followers, I think there was lack of interest on the LMR after steam was removed, There are people who have done them back then and yes on WR the wizzo bashers weren't happy with them either, but as of 1978 with the names and a younger generation they became popular. same with HST's nobdoy liked them at the start, Drivers were happy with 50's well most due to the quiet cabs, But maintenace staff not so much.

  • @jimusgrimus I don't know exact tranfer dates and the great switch on of the TOPS computer system on? but as built to when ever in 1974 they were English Rlectric type 4. After then it's Class 50. However I have seen photos at Crewe, Preston and Carlisle of engines with 500XX numbers on the sides as the last transfer was in 1976.

There may have application of 50 number before TOPS was turned on as they would have drafted the class lists before TOPS went live.

  • @logbasher

Pre tops days the class were refered to as Class 50 or D400's. I can't recall seeing a 50 with T.O.P.S. numbers on the Crewe to Glasgow run. By summer 1974 most of the class was on the W.R. where, incidently, they were detested by railwayman and spotter alike, for replacing class 52. I am sure you know all this. I liked the 50's still do, but '68 to '74 appears to be taboo to the vast majority of fans.

  • @jimusgrimus You need to check you post and Gen... it's not Glasgow, the best livery was Large Logo! 50049 has been repainted in Large Logo black roof livery 44 might get a repaint from two tone green to who knows? BR blue I hope but not Lybiran Railways nor Thomas tanks as you put it. and you finished with 'why no 50's in D400 era ?'

What did you mean by that then?????

  • @logbasher What are YOU on about. I know D400 was pre tops era

  • @jimusgrimus Umm no, no way and what are you on about? your 53 you should know that class 50's were D400's pre Tops, that's before 1974. Jog on

  • Just heard the one of the Class 50 groups are running a double header to Glasgow. Great eh ? The only trouble is one will be in Lybian Railways livery and the other adorned Thomas the Tank engine colours. Even THAT will be better than large logo. Why is there no 50's in D400 era ?
