Our company, EDM Studio Inc, recently completed a refurbishment of the kids playroom at the Royal Tyrrell Museum. The original exhibit was crafted by Ohio's Roto Studio. Our upgrades included replacement of always-on blower fans with a triggered compressed-air system, replacement of a cam-loaded bungee launcher with a pneumatic ram, and a fresh powdercoat paint job. At our behest, the museum took this opportunity to replace the flooring and repaint the room.
The hornlike assembly where balls are launched is completely new. This houses an Ex-Air Line-Vac commonly used for moving material around a factory floor. To keep air usage reasonable, there's a delay before the next firing is possible. This is indicated by the blue LEDs that dim during the "recharge" phase.
For our own amusement, the custom electronics controlling each launcher include a Zigbee radio chip that collectively form a wireless mesh network. This lets us monitor (or even control) the system remotely.
A lot of work for tossing 15g foam balls around, but there you go ...
I was there June 29th and I only remember looking in from outside and went on to see the other exhibits. I didn't know what I was missing. A good place for a video

Yeah, it lets the little ones actually play with something really cool at a place where they can't touch anything else. It is a great idea, and we had a blast there. Too bad the park outside was closed after our tour...
