A man is now offering his support to help the child star of Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire, Rubina Ali. Shes been in the center of recent media exposure that accuses her father of trying to sell her.
STORY:
Abdul Rehman Vanoo runs a trust in India's western Mumbai. He expressed his sympathy and wants to support Rubina.
[Abdul Rehman Vanoo, NRI]:
"What I heard from the media is really intolerable. She has done nothing
wrong. Not a thing. So why should she suffer and why
should she leave her education because of this issue? So we said no, she
should continue and along with her if another brother or sister of her is
ready to educate themselves, then we will support them in all manners."
Vanoo visited Rubina and her family in Garib Nagar and Rubina was quite happy with this decision.
[Rubina, Slumdog Millionaire Child Star]:
"I want to study, and I am very happy that this uncle (Abdul Rehman Vanoo) has come to visit us.
Meanwhile, Rubina's father, continues to deny the allegations, claiming he was trapped. According to reports, he was caught on camera agreeing to sell his daughter to an Arab for twenty million rupees or about four hundred thousand U.S. dollars.
[Qureshi, Rubina's Father]:
"I meet so many people every day on various occasions, but these people wanted to trap me and tried to buy my child in front of a hidden camera. I didn't let go of my child when our life was at its worst, so how can I go and sell her now, when she has become so famous?
