This is a facebook story. Last July, 2009, a childhood friend of mine from 40+ years ago and I reconnected via facebook. At some point my friend suggested that I "friend" his cousin who is a real estate agent in Northern Virginia. I did - later the agent suggested that if I wasn't busy ( 23% unemployment here and not much real estate moving) that he and his sister co-owned a piece of worthless bottom land and could or would I try to see if there would be any interest. What he didn't know that I knew was that the land had a Native American village and burial ground on it and that I had witnessed my best friend's father do an emergency archaeological retrieval in the 1960's when there was a threat of residential development. Today, after one year, the owners are donating the land to The Archaeological Conservancy and the site will be preserved.

Had it not been for facebook, this site eventually would have been lost forever. Now it is hoped that this Saura site, approximately 8 - 10,000 years old, may provide clues or links to the rich history of mankind that is still unfolding throughout our earth. Today I filmed the most personally meaningful land transfer in a 25 year career and was able, for a minute, to time travel back to my high school years and just... remember.
