Michael Oren outlined for reporters at a breakfast sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor his view on the political trajectory of the Palestinian move for statehood at the UN, arguing it would lock the Palestinian state into a bad negotiating position with its own people that would hamstring them "for generations to come."

-----

On Tuesday, October 25, 2011, Israeli Ambassador to the United States Michael Oren joined the Monitor Breakfast for a conversation with reporters.

Michael B. Oren is an American-born Israeli historian and author and the Israeli ambassador to the United States. He has written books, articles, and essays on Middle Eastern history, and is the author of the best-selling Six Days of War: June 1967 and the Making of the Modern Middle East, which won the Los Angeles Times History Book of the Year Award. He was a Distinguished Fellow at the Shalem Center in Jerusalem and a contributing editor to The New Republic and the Shalem Center's quarterly journal, Azure.

A graduate of Princeton and Columbia, Dr. Oren has received fellowships from the U.S. Departments of State and Defense, and from the British and Canadian governments. Formerly, he was the Lady Davis Fellow of Hebrew University, a Moshe Dayan Fellow at Tel-Aviv University, and the Distinguished Fellow at the Shalem Center in Jerusalem. He has been a visiting professor at Harvard, Yale, and Georgetown.

  • ISRAEL FOREVER!

The anti semtiic cockroaches will be eliminated as the Torah says so clearly in many places.

  • woa woa wao. These peace talks haven't even taken place between the parties concerned, and now YOU, and OUTSIDER, is telling everyone how it's going to go down?! Common, you don't have to actually know whats going on to know that this speech is disgusting and riddled with propaganda.

  • @ADULTEDUCATION4U Re: ",..We havent done anything, speak for youself,....my anscestors didn't colonize anyone we got colonized and enslaved,...(etc.) . I cannot speak anything but negatively about Slavery in the U.S A, but my point is that if you go back in history you will find that the country where the ancestors which you recognize as being your ancestors are from, were THEMSELVES COLONIZERS of the previous people who lived there. This is true everywhere you care to look. Hypocrisy.

  • @ADULTEDUCATION4U The ancestors which you recognize or the ancestors which I recognize have nothing to do with it. The U.S was founded on colonization, and so has nearly every other country in the world that you could think of. "...trying to extol the great strides of the Palestinians...", Ah no, simply saying that comparatively the Israelis haven't done anything even remotely compared to what the U.S, and many many other nations/countries, have done historically. Hypocricy no matter who you are

  • @mozo73 We who? My anscestors came to America as slaves, We havent done anything, speak for yourself, as hypocrite not me, my anscestors didnt colonize anyone we got colonized and enslaved, and you should be smacked for trying to extol the great strides of the Palestinians under occupation by the Zio Nazis, have you seen Gaza lately? So worry about pulling your splinters out, not mine..

  • @ADULTEDUCATION4U You make a good point Idealistically, but ,unless you are a Native/Indigenous/American, surely you see some hypocrisy as a citizen of a country which was built on colonization and "Manifest Destiny " in decrying others for doing less than what we have done ?. Yes, I said "less than what we have done" because the Palestinian population has grown tremendously in the last 60 years or so. Taking the 'log' out of one's own eye before pointing at the 'splinter' in anothers eye....

  • This guy is a total douche...

  • Why would they need to trade for statehood if it was already granted?

  • NO TWO STATE SOLUTION

  • get out of the fucking palestinian territories with those jewish fundy fucktards.

Honour previous agreements you slippery snakes
