(Sacramento) - Hundreds of members of the Hmong community rallied yesterday afternoon on the steps of the State Capitol to cheer the passage of Assembly Joint Resolutions 36 and 37 by Assemblymembers Dave Jones (D-Sacramento) and Juan Arambula (D-Fresno) by the Assembly Judiciary Committee. AJR 36 calls on the United States government to use all diplomatic means to assist the Hmong people who are suffering in Laos and Thailand. As we learn in this Assembly Web Report, decades after the Hmong people worked with the United States military in the Vietnam War the communist government of Laos continues to torture and exterminate Hmong people and thousand more are refugees in Thailand with little or no support from the Thai government. AJR 37 calls on the State Legislature to commend the federal government for enacting a law that no longer classifies Hmong allies as "terrorists" that had inadvertently resulted from their support of the U.S. military during the Vietnam War.
