All life on earth sprang from the sea (at least that's the theory) so anything is possible! With humans out of the way it is commonly believed, by many marine biologist, that some squid and/or octopus will use their enormous intelligence advantages and become the new dominant species!

cool I remember the megasquid BUT Octopuses and Cuttlefish are more intelligent infact VERY intelligent sometimes more intelligent than chimps. So it would be them which would be the likely one to evolve.

why can't they evolve bones anyways? ebyros can make their cartilige into bone too.

I think it's more that this creature is thought up by humans. In real life lifeforms, there's still logic to the process.
That said, octopi (not squid, really) are intelligent and have been observed to move on land. So this evolution is not too far off. Scientists have mentioned that they doubt a squid can develop to allow them to walk on land like that, though.

Right, that's the one. It's been suggested that they were the first to internally regulate body temperature, and in-between forms have been discovered that suggest they led to the first mammals.
