she was a Street dog the only time she ever really had human contact was when a russian scientist took her home before launch to play with

he wanted a Miracle for the "Red octobor" so Sending a dog to space was it but the project was rushed and thier was no way she could come back
her food was poisned so she died in a Fast painless way
hey at least she had an exicting life

So many animals have been sacrificed, not just Laika. The Soviets so much bad press from Laika's death every future Soviet space critter was given hero status. The next space dog, Strelka, was bred and one of her pups given to Caroline Kennedy... the only Russian space monkey returned alive and was given to Castro as his personal pet. Unlike NASA in the 50's + 60's who dissected every animal (including monkeys) lucky enough to survive the trip home.
