The video was simply made by cats, for cats, and is thus somewhat biased towards doggies. If you wish, simply substitute cat for whatever you own favourite animal may be :)

The cats vote for cats and the dogs vote for dogs. There are as many dog parties as cat parties but the dog candidate in this video represents the OVERALL dog vote. The cats wouldn't vote for a dog any more than a socialist would vote for a fascist

Why do I get the impression that the whole cat and dog metaphor was just so they could say 'the country will go to the dogs.'?

If this had been Yes to AV's referendum broadcast I'm pretty sure we would have AV now, or at least the result would be much closer.

Here in the US this would be perfect for electing the President. But I think the proportional system would be better for electing our Congress.

Wonder when my vote will actually be worth something instead of being a pointless waste of time. not anytime soon I suspect.

okay then, what would be the threshold for representation for parties? and would there still be electorates or would it be a nationwide poll where the seats are based on the national vote rather than an electorate based vote.

This is Instant Runoff Voting. And it still brings us to two choices. We need proportional houses where ALL the choices are reflected proportionally in the decision making.

Cute video - don't think it will really solve any problems though, when all your choices are despicable.

Why not using a 2-round runoff as here in Brazil ???

I think this way of tallying votes would be good in the USA.

Well, maybe I might fially get to have the last word on this strange Ad. Was it seriously advocating the Alternative Voting system? Well, or starters it oviously alientated dog owners. Second, it made cat owners feel stupid and lastly, it made AV look like a bloody alien invasion and destroyer of worlds. This is how real people, stupid of course, react. Now if Australia was exposed to be the nation that pioneered AV & this is the UK's chance to show Aussies are not the only leaders of Democracy.
