Hello again. Sorry I have not put any videos up for months. Anyway, this is EK 420 from Dubai on finals to Perth International Airport.

  • Winglets are used to minimize the planes wing span while maximizing it's provided lift.

    The 777 is categorized as heavy, hence it will always park at gates with an 80x80 meter box. The 777s wing span fits into an 80x80 meter box even without winglets, that's why it does not have any. Tough, it's wingtips are raked to save fuel.

    737s park at gates with smaller measures, that's why they need winglets to save fuel, as an enlargement of the wings would make them too wide for most airports.
