↓ I have chicken pox. Therefore, I must be a hipster.

P.S. Comments make me smile. Smiling helps me feel better.

P.P.S.
I'm afraid I may be opening a can of worms. Please note that this is meant to be tongue in cheek. I don't actually think I'm a hipster because I have chicken pox as an adult.

However, I do find the concept of hipsters fascinating. My definition of a hipster tends to be very broad and inclusive... generally someone that avoids mainstream culture. However, the sterotypical hipster has very negative connotations. Those who might fit in my definition seem to avoid the term and have far more accurate terms to classify themselves by. For example, I'm probably better described as eclectic than a hipster.

On that note, feel free to discuss your thoughts on the definition of a hipster in the comments. Also - look at the gnome! Why hasn't anyone commented on the gnome yet?!

  • Help me! I'm 19 and I have chicken pox. How did you get rid of yours? How long did it last? was it terrible? I think I'm going to go curl up and die.

  • @BizarreGoblin Oh no! There really isn't much you can do to get better faster. You just have to suffer through it. Think of it as a forced vacation. Distract yourself. DO NOT SCRATCH. There are plenty of remedies online to help with the itching... baking soda/oatmeal baths and calamine lotion worked for me. Take care of yourself, sleep, eat healthy foods and keep yourself hydrated. I was contagious (getting new spots) for about a week, but I was still dealing with scabs a month later. GOOD LUCK!

  • I've always found it illogical how hipsters value non-conformity and yet they are conforming by moulding themselves to the ideal of what a "hipster" is. I enjoy classical music, I listen to records, I enjoy old b-grade films on vhs tapes, I play classic/retro video games, but I am not a hipster. People can call us nerds, or dorks, or hipsters, or whatever they like, but I'll always be myself - and that's all I'll ever try to be.

  • @krendoshazin This seems to be the consensus among most of the people commenting... to simply be ourselves and enjoy whatever we like regardless of what others may say about it. What a healthy community we've built for ourselves here. :)

  • Nobody has commented on the gnome because it's weird and out of place. And since you're a hipster, that actually means it's totally expected of you to just have a gnome all up in your video for no reason.

Also, you didn't like Pokemon OR Spice Girls?! We're not friends anymore.

  • @Futuredudeman I still don't like pokemon. But Spice Girls brings up some nostalgia for me! :P

  • GNOME!

  • thriving on being weird is a hobby of mine. go figure we have something in common! Great video :D

  • @shakes1327 Thanks for the reply.<3 I just found out its not chicken pox. (thank goodness for my family, they've been acting like I have the plague.)XD It's some sort of severe allergic reaction that very much resembles chicken pox, but I'm lucky enough not to have it on my face. I'm trying very hard not to scratch. The calamine and oatmeal is helping immensely. Thanks again. :3

  • @advancekid Ha, yeah it does seem that being weird is becoming the new cool. Guess it's time for hipsters to find a new weird! :P

  • @splicegrrl Aw, I considered creating secret gnome-y annotations. Maybe I'll start hiding annotations just for you. ;)

  • @ChrisHellert I think I put far more thought into why I do/don't like things now than I did when I was younger, but you're absolutely right.
