Ah I just read again do you mean make my own from scratch if so what mm panels would be safe to use without needing bracing

I can get plenty of small tanks measuring 18x10x10 cheap which if ive worked out correctly is 25 litres, the problem is I can't work out how much that size sump would hold with normal running so I don't know if it would hold the extra overflow in a power cut I could get a 35 litre tank to fit with a small mod to the cabinet doors I suppose I would be better off doing that

Ok maybe they are Italian lol, I can find plenty of sumps that will fit in the states but with ridiculous postage charges, I'm thinking of making my own I can find tanks that are 18L x 10W but there only 12H and I'm not sure if it will be big enough to hold the overflow from the tank, the water line for my skimmer sits at 9 inches high so that only gives me 3 inches before the sump is full,
Cheers for the tank info I will email them now

The tank I got is a ferplast Dubai 80, I think it's German chose it as it has a white cabinet and white surround on the tank so it matches living room decor been told they are very well build tanks, it is the exact same dimensions as the fluval Roma, I'm struggling to find a sump to fit at the moment as the cabinet is narrower than the tank I need to find a sump that's 18L 10W 15H inches but I'm waiting to hear back from a tank builder, I think I'll order the xaqua this morning, the other smal

Cheers, how would I tell if the glass is tempered, would you say it's definitely worth getting the xaqua, it will be going in my 125 litre will also have a vortech mp10 for flow, I've already got a 10 gallon set up some vids here on you tube, I want to set this one up the best I can, thanks again for your help
Also make sure the last chamber in your sump (the one that holds the return pump) only holds a small amount. That way if the pipe from your display to the sump gets blocked, only the small return chamber will be pumped into the display preventing your display tank from overflowing, does that make sense...?

Go for it, If you can find a glaziers near you you can get the tank panels and baffles cheap. Use a good aquarium sealant and your away. Plus you can have your own design for the sump. When the return pump is off, the water level in my main tank drops approx 35mm. Going by your tank dimensions (if your pump is rated the same as mine) your sump will need to be able to hold an extra 10 litres or so when the pump is off. However just to be safe I would make sure that its closer to 20 litres ;)

Finding a sump can be a pain on a smaller tank, I had to remove the central division in my cabinet to fit in a sump. You can purchase custom made ones but I think they are quite pricey. Mine is a DIY one made from a standard 24" length tank. Looking online it appears Ferplast is an Italian company, I would drop them an email and ask them about the glass just to be sure - info@ferplast.com ;)

What tank do you have? You will probably be ok as usually its only the bottom panel of a tank that's tempered if at all. It might be worth checking with the manufacturer first or ask around on forums if anyone has drilled your type of tank before (I use Ultimate reef forums). I'm very pleased with the xaqua kit and I'm glad I paid out for it. Another bonus is I can use this kit on any future tanks I purchase as its easy to remove. I see it as an investment in that respect.

Yes the threaded part does go all the way to the main body so it will fit :) I was very nervous about drilling as I've never done it before but it was much easier than I anticipated. I did practice first on a spare glass baffle first though. Just make sure that you have water running over the glass or build a reservoir (using putty) around the drilling area and go nice and slow. Make sure the glass isn't tempered also ;)

Ah ok no worries im near Newport so a bit far away! I don't think there is a minimum glass thickness requirement, the xaqua should fit 6mm fine (I would double check with the supplier first though just in case).
