On May 1, 2003 George Bush, the US president, gave a speech on the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln declaring an "end to major combat operations" in Iraq.

Five years on, with violence continuing unabated across the country, Al Jazeera's Hoda Abdel Hamid looks at the major events of the Iraq war.

Each episode in this special five-part series will focus on one of the last five years - looking at the events, policies and people that helped to shape Iraq and its current chaos.

As well as speaking to top policy makers from the US and UK, along with their senior Iraqi advisors, War Without End hears from ordinary Iraqis and US soldiers.

  • you said it right brother

  • All the Americans' fault. But will they ever accept it? Just like vietnam and basically ever other war they will probably make hollywood movies portraying them as heroes and have the history books so biased, and the truth will never come out.

  • Why don't you look into the evidence that 9/11 was a depraved crime committed by your government?

I do not think you understand how the world works, and Islam terrorism has got a hundred times worse since America and Israel have staged this event and then attacked Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon.

Truly you think an American is a hero if he fights with huge bombs and tanks and satellites, but what about the boy with an AK fighting because you murdered his family.

  • its a matter of perspective, they are just acting on their own beliefs, just as the united states and other western nations feel that the best world is a world of democracy.

  • i would have to disagree with your statement. what we're looking at is theological differences between two factions of the muslim religion. but it seems western intervention has only inflamed the issue. the citizens of iraq couldn't agree on a suitable government to replace hussein, but were angered because they felt that the united states should not intervene based on their own interests. in effect, they are stuck in a difficult position, it is difficult to find the perfect resolution

  • SHUT THE FUCK UP, FUCKING REDNECK.
