You either get it, or don't is so true greenthumb. I gave up trying to convince people you don't have to be stoned to enjoy GD. Its not just about drugs and hippies(though it helps). Their music changed my life and i am forever indebt. They truely are one of a kind.

You can't nail down the GD to anyone genre. They were a kaleidoscope of everchanging styles. Hunter/Garcia an imaginary(?) world inwhich we could all laugh and dance, mourn or even die, and return safely from the trip hopefully a little wiser. You can't explain this band or thier magic to anyone, they either get it or they don't.

Your not looking at it the right way. It's just a bunch of men with extremely diverse taste in genre collaborating to make some of the most fantastic music ever written.

Its folk music. Maybe you should do some research first. This song has a pretty interesting story behind it.

@destinysotherchild they don't represent an era. just an ideal. relax. (they're also not all from san francisco, just got famous there) this kind of country isn't about geography, its about hardworking people and the hard life they've led. its music. no need to categorize it further than that.

Garcia has some of the smoothest guitar I can imagine. Truly a one of a kind sound.
