The example used is the HIV Lentivirus. This video does a great job describing "complex" retrovirus transcription in a visually appealing way that is sufficient in detail for upper level coursework and possibly graduate coursework.
* Modes of action for some anti-viral drugs are also described.

NOTE: The viral genome in the form of DNA stays in the cell's chromosome! This is the predominant reason for the persistence of retroviral infections.

  • Paranormal Activity ain't got nuthin' on you HIV....DAMN.

  • @BITTER0N its b/c the virus is hidden safely inside the host cells during the latent period of the disease therefore the virus mutates, so the antibodies are not effective. also its b/c of the progressive destruction of the T-helper cells and macrophages occurs.

  • DAMN VIRUS,YOU SCARY.

  • all i hear is "gp gp gp"

  • i'm studing virology and i've found some mistake n ths video..

1)the protease of HIV doesn't work in the cell's citoplasm but in the budding virus which for this reason is premature. It would be a great video if there were an explanation with polypeptide gag transcribed in 95%, and peptide gag-pol obtained by slippage of rybosome in 5% of the cases in traduction of the same mRNA. Both protein then goes to plasma membrane with their N-myristil anchor. Sorry for my eng from italian student ;)

  • The possible blocking steps raise a question - what could be the side effect of blocking each of these steps?

  • I need the subtitles in Spanish... Where Can I get this? Can somebody write this? Thanks

  • What is that all about at 1:20 ? Where do all those things go? If that stuff disappears to expose the cell wall why can't it access all the rest of the cell wall without having to mess with those things?

  • EVEN IF T MENT KILLING ME I WOULD KILL EVERY HIV/AIDS CELL IN THE WORLD! I I MOTHER F**** HATE HIV

  • They so smart lol but we must be smarter
