I don't know... I seem to disagree with everyone here..

I definitely don't like this. Overall I find it devastatingly dull.

This aria calls for a voice with squillo not a large voice that is dragged around the score.. Sutherland was dark and large yes but extremely agile.

Gutierrez here reminds me more of Adelaide Negri than Sutherland.

There are unpleasant high notes, strozzate and statiche (choked and not floating)

I give her A for the trills though.

Nothing wrong can be said of Guterriez' high notes though whereas Coburn's lower achivements are still inadequate. Concerning Lakme I think it wasn't her best day but I still love it!

@masterka Are you talking about Sara Coburn? A couple seasons back the Cincinnati Opera had Coburn in Lucia and Guterriez in Traviata about one month apart. It was a great opportunity to compare these wonderful singers. I have to say of the two, I was more impressed with Coburn.

Eglise is AMAZING I have seen her live and her voice is so powerful and her high notes are incredible. She is like the new Joan Sutherland.

@eradesso I sang in the chorus and she was very exhausted, she was singing a lucia before all the rehearsals for this concert. She sang like 5 arias before this... I admire her she's fierce!

Eglise Gutierrez is surely one of my favorite 'new' voices of today's opera. I met & knew of her before her career's rapid progress and I've actually seen her a couple of times in Miami. Undoubtedly there are some beautiful moments here but I wasn't entirely nor avidly impressed with this performance. Also, her voice has seem to have gotten darker and heavier over time but it's still a voice you must hear LIVE. Recordings do not give her timbre justice.
