Dressed In Black - "The Shangri-Las" - Year Song Released 1966

Dressed in black.
He walks alone, a shadow in the night.
Each time he walks by my window.
Can't hold the tears from my eyes.
We're still so much in love.
Why can't they realize?

That every time he looks at me.
I long to feel his lips on mine.
I live on just the memory.
Of him caressing me.
So soft, so warm.
So soft, so warm.

Spoken;
They said he was much too wild for me.
They said I didn't know what I was getting myself into.
They said a whole lot of things.
But there are some things they could never understand.
That a girl can tell by the way a boy holds her hand
Or maybe, they thought we were too young to be in love this way.
Well I don't care what people say.
This girl's love, is getting stronger with each passing day.

That every time he looks at me,
I long to feel his lips on mine.
I live on just the memory,
Of him caressing me
So soft, so warm.
So soft, so warm.

But now he's gone.
But now he's gone.

Spoken:
I climb the stairs,
I shut the door,
I turn the lock,
Alone, once more,
And no one can hear me cry,
No one...

  • this song is so amazing as HIM's intro :)

  • their songs are so suspenseful it's like a hitchcock movie. when i heard that last verse of spoken words i was expecting her to say that she committed suicide in her room.

  • The Shangri-La's were probably the most pessimist of the girl bands from the sixties as this song testifies.

  • esta version esta bien ..........pero me quedo con la version de la gran silvana velasco, no es muy tarde

  • I know this song as "So Soft, So Warm"... Are you sure of the title above?

  • @diktatorship Agree. Actually she said in a sort-of fresh interview that she had enough pain in her when she was a teenager, so the drama in her singing voice came very easily.

  • My favourite bit is at 1:38 when Mary says ... "well I don't care WHAT people say, this girl's love's getting stronger with each passing day.." She was a great actress in these songs, I think that's what makes them so amazing

  • @joealderson1 HIM!!!!!!!!!! lol it's amazing how a lot of people know this song from the HIM shows.

  • HIM are my favourite band, and it still annoys me that people a) are so gushing about Villie and b) they only like this song because they used it as an intro. And can the hypocritical people who are saying HIM suck ect please actually listen to them, both HIM and Shangri-Las have sweet melancholy tendencies. Just enjoy the music, especially this song which is just encapsulating.

  • who the hell are HIM

  • THIS WAS A GREAT INTRO SONG AT THE HIM CONCERT <3
