None of this makes David I a bad king. David I revolutionised government in Scotland and adopted feudal practices but that was by no means unique in Europe at the time and was no worse than contemparary practice in Ireland. There was no "Columban Celtic Church" as such and, whatever part Margaret played, it matters little in today's world where there is little church involvement anywhere.
