As bad as it was, I have to agree that it helped her. Good or bad--publicity is publicity. Of course, she's talented, beautiful and smart--she has all that, but we all know it takes a little more than that to be noticed in the business. This definitely got her noticed.
Besides, up to now they still consider her as 'Miss America 1984'. Miss Charles, her runner up, is under the label 'Miss America 1984b'--don't believe me? Check for yourself. If I'm not mistaken, VW still has her crown too.
