very good effects there. i probably couldn't do that as smoothly as you. just one suggestion. maybe instead of using that red text you could have used white. it was very hard to read in someplace and i think that would have made it much clearer without destroying the mood of the video.
For film and to a lesser degree television, compositors like Fusion, Nuke, and Shake (which is no longer supported for Windows) and a few other pieces of software are much more popular.
The reason is that node based is a better way to go for large projects. It's easier to think about and work with a ton of nodes.
Imagine trying to create a 300 or 400 layer project in After Effects...
That's not to say that people don't work with AE in film or TV, it's not as common, but people use it.
Yes, i made this comment, but i`m NOT i kid. This video is hard to create in any program. That was a sarcastic and ironic response to gatoboindenay`s comment.

If AE is not the industry standard, what else is the standard?

After Effects is not the industry standard for compositing. It does have the biggest market share in the motion graphics department, though.
But it's practically non-existent in film and high end television, where the node-based apps reign supreme.
It's a very solid, easy to use program though, and it certainly has it's place.
