Mumia Abu-Jamal(Born Wesley Cook on April 24, 1954) was convicted and sentenced to death for the 1981 murder of police officer Daniel Faulkner, and is currently a prisoner at State Correctional Institution Greene near Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.

In December 2001, a judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania affirmed his conviction but quashed the original punishment and ordered resentencing. Both Abu-Jamal and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania appealed. The case was orally argued before a three-judge panel in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, Philadelphia on May 17, 2007. On March 27, 2008, the panel issued its opinion upholding the decision of the District Court. His case has received international attention. Supporters and opponents disagree on the appropriateness of the death penalty, whether he is guilty, or whether he received a fair trial and the benefit of due process.

Prior to his arrest he was a Black Panther Party activist, cab driver, and journalist. During his imprisonment he has courted controversy as an honoree of municipal, educational and civil society organizations, and as a spoken word commentator and published author of several works—most notably Live from Death Row.

This is a ridiculously biased analysis of events. Less than eight percent of the jury pool was black; the balance was white. Ten of the jurors were white, but only one was actually black; the other was a mulatto. Also, the trial judge, Albert Sabo, was a known racist who was the recipient of many race-related internal-affairs complaints whilst a cop, all of which were covered up. He openly exclaimed, "Let's fry this nigger." There were dozens of Constitution-trashing violations in this case.

Mumia had NO prior arrests; a white, FOP member, former-cop trial judge; coerced witnesses who later recanted; gargantuan contradictions in each of the police report, detective interviews, and trial testimony; a jury pool with fewer than eight percent blacks; ten jurors who were admittedly racially prejudiced and supportive of capital punishment; ineffective assistance of counsel; and many other impediments to due process before, during, and after his trial. Yes, Mumia received a fair trial!

The first time I came across this cases was in 1992, a leaflet was posted at a community coffee house in San Diego, Ca. It told of a journalist who came to the aid of a shot white police officer and as the cop was dying pull a gun on his rescuer and shot him point blank range. The story went on how corrupt police official planted a gun on Mumia. That Mumia's attorney was incompetent and an alcoholic. But the public record is different. No mention of the brother driving the stop vehicle? WFT?
