Ray isn't a scientist, he is a businessman and inventor. His "scientific" credibility leaves a lot to be desired, that's for sure.

I've read the books, did the studies and listened to what he says for several years now. I have come to the conclusion that his little techno-nirvana won't suddenly pop up in 2045, it'll take centuries of exponential progress to get there. His timeline requires super-hyperbolic growth, which just isn't possible in the real world.
