@angelcake268 "Butterfly" is not referring to the finished product- it's referring to the way you end up making two loops that look like butterfly wings while forming the pattern.

The key is to just keep looping and pulling the slack. It starts looking like crap, but once you do three or four, it will straighten out so long as you are pulling the slack tight. Don't be shy about that.
I came in to this having done the box and barrel stitch with little issue. I thought this would be a cake-walk because it is said to be the most basic stitch of its kind. And in a way this is true, but for beginners, the first three stitches are brutal. After that it IS an easy stitch.

Oh my gosh, I can do three color twist, and regular, cobra stitch with two colors and super cobra stitch, I can do basic and circle stitch on two color plus do the loopsy stitch, and plus that I can do zipper stitch but I do not think I can do butterfly OMG!
